Be sure to avoid paid links, as advertised by some posters. They will harm your site in the long run, Google does not like them and asks if you find one to report it to them...
Google optimization is not easy for just any Joe Bloggs, it can be done by an individual, if they are willing to invest a huge amount of time, but there are many pitfalls to be aware of and you are best advised to consult a professional to obtain the best results.
