Default do we need to redirect?

we are having a site and want to convert our site.It is doing well in Google but suffers from functionality issues.Page suffixes would change from .asp to .aspx.
So my question is :do we have to do 301 redirects for the whole 12,000 pages?

That is the good technique to prevent search engines wrath .For sure any extension changes whether form .html to .htm or php or aspx must be properly redirected.
